How to Calculate Power Requirements Correctly

Accurate power calculation is the foundation of every reliable electrical system.

Basic Formula

Power (W) = Voltage (V) × Current (A)

Example

  • System voltage: 24V
  • Load current: 8A

Required power:
24 × 8 = 192W
✅ Recommended power supply: at least 240W

Why Power Reserve Matters

  • Thermal effects
  • Efficiency losses
  • Component aging
  • Inrush current and peak loads

✅ Recommendation

✅ Select a power supply with at least 20–30% power headroom.
